Workshops at the Burinkan:
Russ Smith conducts workshops / seminars both at the Burinkan in central Florida, and on location at schools around the world.
Workshops at the Burinkan Dojo typically happen in the Fall/Winter timeframe, making it a great opportunity to come down from colder climates to the milder Florida temperatures.
Style-agnostic workshops typically surround teaching methods and principle-driven application methods, both before the teaching of kata, as well as for the purposes of better guiding kata applications to stay in-line with the principles of the style. These seminars are informed by principles, training methods, and drills from Fuzhou and Hakka martial arts that may have influenced the ancestors of Okinawan karate.
School hosts can also request style-specific workshops, selecting from wide a range of topics:
- Goju-ryu,
- Matayoshi Kobudo,
- Fujian Five Ancestor Boxing,
- Fujian White Crane,
- Hakka Pak Mei
- Hakka Dragon
- Integrated Eskrima
All workshops are taught using the unique Principle-Driven methodology, making it quick and easy to understand the similarities and differences between different martial traditions.
