Frequently-Asked Questions:

Question: How is a short course different from a distance learning program?
Answer: Our distance learning programs are designed for those serious about learning a martial tradition the right way, from the beginning, with the goal of ultimately attending in-person workshops or hosting the instructor to your location for necessary hands-on refinement, skill development, and certification opportunities.

Short Courses, however, are small snippets of drop-in style training that teach a singular topic, kata, taolu or concept.

Question: Are the classes live or recorded?
Answer: Short courses were initially delivered live, however every class is recorded as a reference for the live participants, those who could not attend live due to scheduling conflicts, and for those who start after the course commences.

Question: If register for a short course, how can I get feedback on my progress?
Answer: To receive progress when studying from a short course, you can set up a private lesson with the instructor. Cost is $50USD (or 2 ECs) for a private 30-minute lesson with the instructor via Zoom.

Question: What are these "Educational Credits (ECs)"?
Answer: If you join our Patreon, in addition to exclusive content, you'll earn Educational Credits each month to spend on educational opportunities including live or recorded classes, live workshops, short courses, or private Zoom lessons. Check out our Patreon page for details.

Question: How do I redeem these "Educational Credits (ECs)"?
Answer: Simply drop us a message when you are ready to spend a credit on a class, workshop, or private lesson and we'll do the rest.

Question: Are there any pre-requisites for taking these short courses?
Answer: No, unlike some of our Distance Learning programs, short courses have no pre-requisites.

Question: Can I register for multiple short courses at the same time?
Answer: Absolutely, and many people do. Of course, you'll have to train extra hard to make progress in multiple subjects at once, but it can be done if you put in the work.
